TAILORING

We strive to put you in the perfect garment with an amazing fit every time, and quality tailoring is essential when it comes to fit. By taking in here, letting out there, throwing in a hem (or two), we shape our clothes to your figure and preferences. A little bit of tailoring goes a long, long way, and the chances of something fitting perfectly right off of the rack are pretty rare. That’s why we always offer full tailoring services on anything we sell — for the lifetime of the garment. Come upstairs to our shop and throw on any of our suits sport coats, vests, trousers, shirts or overcoats, and our expertly-trained associates will measure and make all the necessary markings in no time at all. Four to five weeks later, we’ll be calling you up to let you know that our classically-trained tailor has completed work, and it’s ready to be tried on. Tailoring is a process, and sometimes we’ll need to take more than one pass — if we need to redo our tailor’s work, we’ll take care of it quickly and at zero cost to you.

How long does tailoring take and how much does it cost?

Normally, tailoring typically takes four to five weeks. Sometimes, we can rush the tailoring on a shorter timeframe (roughly two weeks) for an additional $25 charge. That being said, we generally recommend that you give yourself six weeks of buffer to allow for enough time for tailoring (and add a few weeks for a special order). Our tailoring returns to the shop on Wednesdays by 3:00 pm, and we always call or email you as soon as it comes back. If what you’re buying is full-price, then we won’t charge you anything to trim it up and have it tailored to your body — we consider that cost part of buying our garments at full-price. If the item is marked down on sale, or once it gets past six (6) months of the original purchase date, we’ll charge you only what our skilled tailor charges us (between $12 and $30 per alteration) and whip it into shape. If you rack up a ton of tailoring while purchasing a sale item, we won’t go above the original price of the garment, and any additional alterations you want done will be complimentary.

What we do/don’t tailor

We’ll alter any garment purchased from us anytime; however, due to the volume of pieces we send to our tailor, we cannot alter items purchased or acquired elsewhere. If you have some of our clothes from yesteryear that you want to get touched up, we’re more than happy to oblige. We stand by our work and the clothes we sell, and are more than happy to fine-tune them. To keep things easy on our tailor’s work flow, we kindly request you bring in only three J&C pieces at a time for us to redo.

Here are the alterations we offer on our garments:

Jackets: sides in/out, center in/out, shorten/lengthen sleeves, narrow sleeves, lower collar, pinch collar, shorten straps, front darts, shorten jacket, seal vents, drop armholes.

Trousers: waist in/out, seat in/out, waist, crotch in, taper legs, hem, cuff or no cuff (default no), add suspender buttons.

Vests: sides in/out, shorten straps, shorten body.

Shirts: sides in, add/remove darts, shorten sleeves, narrow sleeves, convert to banded collar, convert to short sleeve, shorten shirt (curved, tails, or straight).

Repairs: (most) zipper repair, replace buttons on shirt/suit.
